The Body Bar: 100 Senses review. In the past year or so, I have been steadily replacing my beauty and hygiene products for more sustainable options. The safety razor, reusable cotton rounds, as well as the reusable ear swab have become staples in my sustainable beauty routine.
At the beginning of this year, my goal was to start trying out new, sustainable versions of my soaps and washes like shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream, and body wash. I already try and buy clean, non-irritating skincare and haircare products because of my eczema, but conventional soaps and suds come with so much plastic waste. Cue 100 Senses.
The Ultimate Body Bar
I was so excited to find The Ultimate Body Bar made by 100 Senses. This bar crossed off all of the shower beauty products I had been looking for in a single all-in-one, plastic-free package! The Ultimate Body Bar is designed to be used for body wash, shaving lather, and shampoo!
I know, I know… I am very skeptical of 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 products too. It seems that the only people who are fooled into the 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner scam are of the male variety (*cough my husband cough). But hear me out!
This body bar was named very appropriately, it truly is the ultimate body bar. I have been using it exclusively as my shampoo, body wash (occasionally face wash), and shaving lather since February. The amount of plastic waste that this one bar saves is incredible!
How is it Clean Beauty?
100 Senses is a cruelty-free company with vegan products that are designed and manufactured in the United States. Their focus is on creating a sensorial experience designed to help bring awareness and presence to your daily life.
The Ultimate Body Bar is a soap-free, moisturizing shampoo, shower, and shave bar that is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin and safe for color-treated hair. It comes in four fragrance options, Green Tea, Wild Lavender, Citrus Neroli, and Fragrance-Free.
Key Ingredients: Argan Oil, Panthenol, Emollients, and Antioxidants. The majority of the bar is made from derivatives of coconut oil. I really appreciate that they offer a fragrance-free formula. Even though the fragrances are plant-based, they could still be an irritant for some people. There are 12 ingredients in the fragrance-free formula. This formula is free of harsh detergents, artificial dyes, silicones, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten, as well as palm oil.
How Does it Perform?
I have sensitive, eczema-prone skin, so when choosing my skincare, I want a product that is gentle on my skin but still effective and hydrating. That is exactly what The Ultimate Beauty Bar delivers. It does not irritate my skin at all and it leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated.
Sometimes when I have used bar soap in the past, my skin gets that tight, squeaky clean feeling afterward. Not with this bar. In fact, there have been a couple of times that I did not even apply lotion after my shower, something I do religiously, and my skin felt perfectly soft and hydrated.
I do not use this as my main face wash but I have used it several times to wash my face when I’m in the shower and forgot to bring my main face wash in with me. It is a great face wash, it doesn’t dry out my skin or cause any breakouts which I was a little nervous about because of the coconut. (PSA: do not use straight-up coconut oil to remove your makeup or you will get a zillion red bumps all over your face. Okay, I don’t know that that would for sure happen to you… but it sure did happen to me.. not fun). I always use cleansing oil to remove my makeup before washing my face, so I can’t speak to how well it removes makeup on its own.
Shampoo was the part of the equation I was the most skeptical about. I just thought that a bar that can be used as body wash could not possibly be a great shampoo as well. It just couldn’t be possible. Oh, how I was wrong!
There is something magical about the amount and texture of the lather that you get from this bar. There is some wizardry involved somehow because with just a couple swipes you get such a thick, creamy lather.
The Ultimate Body Bar effectively cleans my hair without stripping it and moisturizes without it feeling heavy or greasy. I do still use a conditioner after shampooing with this bar.
The thick, creamy lather that you get from this bar is what makes it great for shaving. There is just enough product between your skin and your razor for a comfortable shave. It isn’t comparable to shaving cream or gel. I personally haven’t used shaving cream in years. I find it to be too thick and unnecessary. In the past, I would use conditioner as my shaving cream. While this was thrifty and worked well as a barrier, the conditioner was too slick and silky, and holding onto my razor was a bit of a struggle.
To use this as shaving lather all you need is one swipe into your hand. work up the lather between your hands and smooth it on your legs. It is so quick and easy and way less hassle than shaving cream or conditioner. Plus, you’re washing your legs and shaving at the same time, very efficient.
How much does it cost?
The Ultimate Body Bar is $26 for 6.5 ounces of product. They do offer a subscription service that comes with free shipping and a 10% discount. This bar lasted me approximately 3 months using it as shampoo, body wash, and shaving. My husband used it on occasion as well so, 3 months for all of those things and with two people using it!
I will continue to repurchase The Ultimate Body Bar from 100 Senses. I was beyond pleasantly surprised with this product! The fact that it works and works so well for body wash and shampoo is mind-blowing to me. This truly is clean, effective, and sustainable beauty.
Thanks for reading! Please let me know if you try out this bar and how you like it! I am currently on the hunt for a conditioning bar so, if you have any recommendations I would love to see them!
