Girlfriend Collective Review | Sustainable Activewear.
You have probably heard of Girlfriend Collective and if you haven’t, oh man is your activewear wardrobe about to double in size. Girlfriend Collective is your size-inclusive, one-stop-online-shop for ethically made and trendy activewear. They are constantly selling out of and responsibly restocking their essentials leggings and bras as well as launching the coolest limited edition colors.
When I made the decision to shop ethically, activewear was among the first pieces I searched for. Like most other people, I tend to live in my activewear… even when I am not actually going to be doing anything active. Unless you count actively searching through the endless Netflix shows while actively lifting my coffee to my mouth… So, I figured finding sustainable activewear would give me the most bang for my buck because shopping ethically ain’t cheap.
That was pretty negative, I’m sorry, but it’s true. Luckily for us, Girlfriend Collective is among the more affordable ethical brands out there! Check out four more affordable, ethical activewear brands here.
Girlfriend Collective Essentials
The Girlfriend Collective Essentials consist of several bras, leggings, shorts/skirts, and unitards available in five core colors. The five core colors are Moss (forest green), Black, Plum (purple/mauve), Midnight (dark blue), and Moon (dark grey).
There are four Essentials leggings styles: Compressive High-Rise, High-Rise Pocket, Maternity, as well as a Unitard. The Compressive High-Rise Legging comes in three inseam length options, 28.5, 23 3/4, and 19.5. Both the Pocket and Maternity leggings come in two inseam length options, 28.5 and 23 3/4. All of their legging styles are available in sizes XXS – 6XL.
I have the Compressive High-Rise Leggings in Moss. I love the earthy green color (earthy colors are my jam, hi, I’m a Capricorn) and the softness of these leggings is unreal! They fit true to size. I am normally a size small but I ordered a medium to be on the safe side and they are too big for me. I also forgot to exchange them for the correct size, very un-capricorn-like of me.
There are six Essentials Bra styles: Paloma, Topanga, Dylan, Simone, Tommy, and Lou. The tops come in all of the core colors as well as a sixth color, Ivory. All of their bra styles are available in sizes XXS-6XL. The Paloma, Topanga, and Dylan styles are my favorite because they are more like cropped tanks. I have two Paloma tanks in Moss and Black – they are super comfortable with moderate support. Because of the square neckline, the Paloma can be a little too cleavage-y at times with strenuous floor exercises.
The Simone bra is the most supportive with built-in cups and adjustable criss-cross straps. The Lou bra comes with removable cups and a cute strappy back.
There are six Essentials Short styles: High-Rise Bike Short, Bike Unitard, Skort, High-Rise Pocket Bike Short, High-Rise Run Short, and the Maternity Bike Short. All of the styles are available in sizes XXS-6XL.
Girlfriend Collective FLOAT
The Girlfriend Collective FLOAT collection is a lightweight, seamless version of their essentials. There are three bras/tops in the collection as well as a high-rise legging and a bike short. The core colors differ from the essentials and are a bit more soft and earthy toned – so, you know they are my favorite! The five core FLOAT colors are Black, Shadow (dark greenish grey), Midnight (dark blue), Fern (earthy chartreuse), and Fig (pink mauve).
As with the Essentials, the FLOAT collection is available in sizes XXS-6XL. I got the FLOAT high-rise leggings and the Cleo top in the color Fig. It is ultra soft and comfy just like the original but a little thinner. Fits true to size, I wear a size 6 waist and 34B bra and ordered a small in the leggings and the top.
Everyday GF is a collection of everyday staples made from recycled polyester. This collection includes underwear and socks – two styles of underwear as well as two length options for socks. Girlfriend Collective created Everyday GF to solve the problem of tossing out our old, unrecyclable socks and underwear by replacing them with sustainably made alternatives.
In addition to offering a sustainable alternative, Girlfriend Collective created ReGirlfriend, a recycling program where you can send back your old Girlfriend Collective gear and they will recycle it for you by sanitizing and creating new fabric from it! PLUS you get a discount on your next order when you use ReGirlfriend – that is what we call a win-win-win my friends!
The socks are available in crew and quarter crew lengths. I have three pairs of the quarter crew size and they are thick, plushy, and the cutest socks in my drawer! The quality of these socks is outstanding – they feel as if they will last for years and years. They do pill a tiny bit from the dryer so if this bothers you, I suggest you line dry them. They have a compression fit to promote circulation so if you are on your feet all day, these will be your feet’s new best friends!
The underwear comes in two styles, brief and thong, and three colors, Shell, Copper, and Black. I have two pairs of briefs in the color shell and three thongs, one in each color. They are so soft, lightweight, and comfortable. I do not put these in the dyer – I wash them in the washing machine and then let them air dry flat.
Everyday GF has a Top Drawer Discount program where you can mix and match up to seven pieces of any socks and/or underwear and save some money.
Girlfriend Collective is truly one of my favorite ethical and sustainable brands! The quality is impeccable and the fit and style of everything is so cute and comfy! I get so excited and am the first to their website whenever they come out with something new. BTW they have sweaters and sweatpants now!! If you need me, I’ll be pursuing their line of sweatsuits. Until next time – Happy Shopping!
